With SEM, you can start seeing results right away by buying keyword ads on the leading search engins, while SEO is incremental and happens over time.
Getting started with SEO:
1) Perform a keyword analysis,
2) Create a blog, leave guest comments on other high volume sites, write guest blogs,
3) Optimize images,
4) Link internally, and
5) Incorporate SEO-specific tools into your site like Yoast for WordPress sites.
Remember to check your Google Analytics data regularly and adjust your investment of time and money based on results, not intuition.
